My Menopause Journey
As every woman will tell you, no menopause is the same. And, as someone who is still navigating theirs, shaking the shame and changing the narrative around menopause in the workplace and society isn’t just a job. It’s my vocation.
There is a wonderful Japanese word, Konenki. Not only is it the word for menopause, but it also means ‘renewal’ and ‘energy’. Here, the menopause isn’t just understood; it’s celebrated and revered. If I had to sum up what I’m trying to achieve for women in the workplace, it’s that.
My own menopause experience has been quite the journey. From experimenting with natural supplements like Evening Primrose and Black Cohosh for my changeable moods, fatigue, anxiety, migraines, and heart palpitations, to starting on Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). I also support my wellbeing with meditation, journaling, walking, running, and yoga. And I’ve embraced sobriety, which aids better sleep, energy, and my general zest for life.
What’s worked for me may not for others. But I believe that owning your menopause is a powerful and liberating thing, transforming a difficult time into a positive, freeing, and enlightening experience.
